Welcome to the home of the Southern California Asterisk Users Group. We meet every third thursday of each month at the Heritage Park Library in Irvine, Ca. The library is located on the north-west corner of Yale and Walnut. The meeting is from 6pm - 9pm and everyone is welcome to attend. Watch the site for information on special events and scheduled speakers each month.

Off topic, there is a list of sites to donate funds to the Earthquake in Haiti at www.idk-net.net

PRESENTATION 1:  Group discussion and planning (~20-30 minutes)
We are ready to make this a productive year.  We are going to plan better and accomplish more.  I will pass out some materials that will help with organizing and planning.
- Future Meetings: Topics, presentations, demos, labs, guest speakers
- Posting presentations; recording presentations; online meetings; other ideas
- Website and forum
- Committees: Membership & social; Presentations & Guests; Marketing & Web; etc.
- Activities and industry events
- Our project: activities, goals, and status
- Are we ready to connect everybody's individual 'branch' to the 'HQ' in our scheme?
- Team meetings between the monthly UG meetings to work on projects

PRESENTATION 2:  Telephony System Components (~60-80 minutes
A fun and technical discussion of: how the phone system works; what are tip and ring; FXO/FXS; SLIC and SLAC; key systems vs PBX; DAA and telephone line electrical interface; more.
- Telephone system introduction & brief history
- Early telephone system components & operation: analog POTS
- Modern telephone system components & operation: PSTN
- Digital telephone system components & operation: VoIP
- The open source PBX revolution: benefits and components
- Technical discussion: How telephones work

Presentation 3: Kickoff VoIP Security (~20-30 minutes)
Are you ready to launch a new VoIP topic?  Let's take an introductory look at VoIP security and some of the tools we will use in our labs.  This topic is deep enough to use for several presentations and labs.  If you are knowledgeable about network and VoIP security, please be sure to respond and let me know.
- Introduction and open discussion about network and VoIP security
- Vulnerabilities, exploits, concerns - you would be surprised how many concerns we have
- Mitigating risks - simple rules to advanced techniques
- Tips-n-Tricks - we found some, you provide some, we all gain
- Tools - especially free tools
- Bring a thumb drive to take home some utilities
